A Simple Lotus

Ava had a small tattoo on her left upper arm that she got on a whim and that no longer resonated with her. She was wondering if we could cover it up with a lotus; she found an image of one that she liked, altered it a bit, printed it out and brought it in for us to look at together. (I love that!) I said, "This is awesome! We can totally cover your old tattoo with this new image, almost exactly as you've got it here, as long as we use colors of dark value for the lotus-- like blues or purples. Are you OK with that?"
She said, "What about a red lotus?" I said that a flat red would need to be paired with purple and a dark plum-- really, a blue lotus would work best, but that I would offer her two options for final color schemes. We'll see which one she picks when she comes in for her color session.
Here are some photos of the color drawings, before, very fresh outline (you can still see some of the purple stencil) and very fresh gray shading stages.
